The History
During early 19th century, the Missionary British bureaucrats and Army Personnel's came across a serious situation of how to provide quality education to their children, owing to their work, responsibilities and fulfilment of services, which kept them away from the cities and compelled them to spend most of their time in rural areas. In such situations the education of their children was adversely affected. In order to resolve this problem they thought of opening a boarding school in central India’s Jabalpur region and the responsibility to do so was laid on the strong shoulders of the Missionary Pastor P.G. W. Darling. The foundation stone of the current “Canon Darling Hall” was laid by him on 6th of April, 1915. It took him more than a decade to complete the work during the Principal ship of Rev. G. C. Rogers it was known as ‘Darling Hostel’ but later was renamed to be known as ‘Canon Darling Hall’ which to date holds the name in high esteem.
The Infrastructure
The hostel building mainly divided into 3 parts in which children reside according to their age and Class. High School children stay in A-Dormitory, The middle School children are in B-Dormitory and the primary and Kinder Garden children occupy the C-Dormitory. Hostel provides sound environment and ample facilities to its hostellers. There is a big dining hall which is also used as study area. The hostel also has an infirmary with 6 beds as an added facility for the children.

From 1915 to 1935 the functioning of ‘Canon Darling Hall’ vested in the able hands of Rev. G. C. Rogers. After that Mr. Donald V. Beatson, who himself received his early education at Christ Church Boys School, took the charge of the hostel as its superintendent and held the position for 34 years. Thereafter Mr. D.A. Stephens and Mr. H.J. Warren rendered their services as superintendent with par excellence during their respective tenures till 1997.The Present Superintendent Mr. F.H. Claudius First joined the hostel as Accounts Clerk in 1989 and on 1st of April 1997 took over the charge of the hostel.
Aim and Objectives
Before independence the hostel had a provision for accommodating only 70 student and most of them hailed from Bureaucratic backgrounds and missionaries. But after independence the capacity has grown and today 150 children are benefited, who not only belong to a particular section but also come from rural areas in the radius of about 300 kms to gain knowledge and transforms themselves by studying in the school for 13-14 years and while staying in the hostel for the same period of their lives. Since they’ve entrusted in us, The hostel provides them with the best of facilities and ensures that they are always served the best, nutritive and fresh food. The children coming from rural areas are well satisfied with the attention given to them by the staff, teachers, caretakers and the principals during the early stages of education where in with love and affection showered upon them they gradually overcome their drawbacks and with proper guidance and cooperation from the principal and teachers in few years they start giving better result. They are nurtured in such optimum environment that they not only excel in academics but also absorb moral and spiritual values which enable them to withstand severities of life. Our hostellers have always proved their mettle in Athletic Cluster meets both at State and in National Level. They have won many medals in sports and games and added many feathers to our cap which is proudly adorned by us. Like this our hostellers experience over all development and emerge as an idol for others in their respective fields and due to this fact we have had four to five generations of same family studying in our school. As mentioned before, many of our hostellers now come from rural areas and our aims is to bring them up in such a manner that they become useful instruments of society and prove to be worthy citizens of our Nation. We transform them into progressive, self reliant and confident people who have the potential to take their country onto the path of progress. Our objective is to teach and train them in such a manner that they are confident in language skills and academics and are ready to face the challenges with ease at par with children born and brought up in developed urban cities.
